Discover the Royal Greenhouses of Laeken in Brussels in 2023

The Royal Greenhouses of Laeken are one of Brussels’ hidden gems, offering an unforgettable experience for nature, botanical, history, and architecture lovers. They are open to the public for three weeks each year, and if you’re in the city during that time, don’t miss this unique opportunity to visit these magnificent greenhouses.

The Royal Greenhouses of Laeken open their doors from April 14th to May 7th, 2023.

A little bit of history…

Built-in 1873 during the reign of King Leopold II, the Royal Greenhouses were created to offer his prestigious guests a tropical paradise in the heart of Brussels. They are located in Laeken Park, near the Château de Laeken, the official residence of the Belgian royal family. The greenhouses consist of several pavilions, each with a unique architecture and an impressive collection of exotic plants and flowers.

A paradise for nature lovers…

The Royal Greenhouses of Laeken are a true botanical treasure, housing an incredible variety of exotic and tropical plants. You can admire many impressive species, some of which were brought back from the former Belgian Congo, reflecting Belgium’s colonial history.

Among the most impressive plants to discover in the greenhouses are the majestic palm trees, gigantic banana trees, giant ferns, and brightly colored orchids. You can also discover carnivorous plants, cactus, succulents, as well as many species of medicinal and aromatic plants.

As you wander through the greenhouses, you’ll be immersed in an exotic and fascinating world, a mix of botany and history.

Two routes to choose from…

Two routes are available for visitors: a short (1.5 hours) or a long (2.5 hours) one.

The long tour (2.5 hours) starts with a walk through the Royal Domain garden before visiting the greenhouses. During the short tour (1.5 hours), only the garden is accessible. In 2021, due to health restrictions, the route was modified (closed spaces were not accessible). Visitors were able to walk around the garden and discover 2-3 greenhouses. We are therefore eagerly awaiting the opportunity to discover the full route in 2023.
